STARS IN THE CAR

It was 1979. I was at a party for a magazine and ran into Herman Brood and his girlfriend Nina Hagen.

Herman, too drunk to drive, shouted in my ear: “Hey Barry, can you drive us home to Amsterdam?” Sure, Herman!

In the backseat of my little orange car, Nina put her head down in Herman’s lap and fell asleep.
I dropped them off at their house and went home.

A few days later, I was surprised to find an earring in the back of my car.
I had no idea where it came from until I developed the pictures of the party.

It was one of Nina’s earrings that had fallen out when she lifted her head out of Herman’s lap when we got to their house.
Phew, was I ever relieved to have this picture! Now I could return Nina’s earring to her.

Have you ever seen Herman Brood’s art? It’s amazing!
