Every time I saw Barry Hay of Golden Earring, I would say “Hey, Barry”. And he’d go “Hey, Barry!”.
Which made everybody laugh.

I was very sad to hear about the passing of their guitar player, George Kooymans, recently. His illness meant the end of Golden Earring, because the other members didn’t want to go on without him.
They have decided to finish the series of farewell concerts without him though, because a part of the proceeds will go to the battle against ALS, the disease George died from. They were supposed to do one show, but due to enormous interest, they added four more shows that were sold out within an hour.

My next “Hey, Barry” will have a sad ring to it. It can’t be easy to lose a band member you’ve known since the age of 19. This picture of Barry reminded me to enjoy every day as much as you can.
