Saturday, April 18 is international Record Store Day. Fun!
Record stores across the globe will be hosting in-store events and going all out to make this a special day for vinyl lovers.
Too bad I can’t go back to my old favorite record store. When I was a kid, growing up in L.A., my best friend Alvin and I used to go to ATA Records on Valley Plaza, San Fernando Valley, California. We were both in love with the girl who worked there. I think her name was Diane. We bought a lot of records to impress her. But sometimes we only had the $1.99 for the mono version, not the $2.99 for the stereo version.
But yeah, Diane was the start of my record collection. Like many people, I have a lot of cool records and even a record player. But I never play them. What a shame! I will take Record Store Day as a starting point to play records again.
Maybe I’ll go to my new favorite record store, Marmur Art in Zierikzee, the Netherlands.
Will you be visiting your local record store on April 18?
